"Bouldering in Ireland" reprint
« on: September 27, 2013, 08:50:14 AM »
Would be great to hear some opinions about how I should go about producing the second edition of "Bouldering in Ireland", straight reprint, minor updates, major updates etc?

The book has been out of circulation for quite a while so a reprint is worthy.

Unless you plan on doing a major update (version 2) which I am not sure is yet warranted by additional new problems etc, I'd think the inclusion of an additional  few pages, possibly loose, detailing corrections would be sufficient and get it back on the shelves.

I think that in a few years time, a bouldering in Ireland (version 2) will be called for..

with minor updates would the Fair Head section change much as there is a full guide for there also. a straight reprint sounds easiest/quickest to the market, then,  with a version 2 in a couple years time. it seems like there is well enough for a foreign visiting climber in the current book.
although what about webpages like rockfax etc.... is there anyway of knowing what they can do if an online database is made on their site?
that'll be my "less than" two cents worth.

I agree with both of you, a minor update is the way to go. And hopefully can do a major one in a few years when more new stuff has been discovered...

I'm going to go ahead with this update. Will probably add in a few tiny areas (Achill, Wicklow Head) and add the problems that have been submitted to the new problem database. So if anyone wants to suggest any changes or updates or highlight mistakes or improvements now is the time to do it.

Some ideas?
- better directions to Derryrush 'little yosemite/ the barn' we've taken the wrong turn a couple of times
- add an child/ toddler friendly rating to each venue?
- picnic venue rating to each venue?
