I agree with Pationing.
It makes bouldering safer.
The argument “improve your climbing skills, not the landing” is more relevant to a discussion on chipping/bolting routes.
Obviously people need to be sensitive to the environment and the preferences of others, with regard to how they improve landings. Permanent landings should not reduce the scope of climbing, ie by covering low holds on a boulder and eliminating sit-starts, or variations to the the main problem. Permanent Landings should blend in with the area. Only local material should be used for construction.
I have no issue with somebody leaving a heap of pallets etc. temporarily, while they work on a project.
